American: 1836—191012—ROCKY COAST (Water Color)Height, 14 inches; length, 2ly2 inches The rocky coast of Maine speaks forth with all theforce of its own rugged vigor, and the full volume ofthe Homeric interpretation. The rocks, gray andbrown and speckled, patched with pink and black andtinged with green, slope irregularly from the left downto the ocean, which comes into view only at their foot inthe right foreground. Its blue waters break lightlythere in a low white surf, and extend to a far white hori-zon, against which are seen the sails of distant ships.The sky aloft is filled with swiftly moving storm-clouds,blue-black and gray, and on top of the rocks is to beseen a fisherman or sailor, in oilskins, boots and sou-wester, who has come down to the coast, and, steadyinghimself against a projecting rock, peers oirt to sea. No. 13BALLET GIRL IN PIXK BY LOUIS KROXBERG a Louis Kroiiberg American: 1871— 13—BALLET GIRL IN PINKV (Pastel) Height, 24 inches; width, 19% inches A ballet girl in the customary costume of tight bodice,cut low, and diaphanous skirts, the whole costume in adelicate purplish pink, is portrayed in a dressing room,seated and completing or readjusting her attire. Sheis facing the spectator, ,turned slightly to her left, andleans forward to tie about her left ankle the pink rib-bons that hold her dancing slippers. Signed at the lower left, Louis Kroxberg; and at thelower right is: Paris, 1912. Purchased from M. Knoedler 4 Co., Sew York, 1906.
