Summary

[edit]
Description
English: An already optimized planform is assumed.

An elliptic load along the span reduces the induced loss due to flow around the tip. Reduced area load at the root and at the tip of the wing delays flow separation (stall) to large angles of attack. For even larger angles of attack the swept back root and tip drag away the gradually growing separation from the main part of the wing.

For this planform bent up wing tips and a lowered fuselage allow to more compactly enclose the region of low pressure above the aeroplane.
