Notes |
The historiated initial is the first letter of the text which begins Excellentissimo domino et christianissimo Lodovico dei gracia Regi francorum illustri Frater W. de Rubruc ... The text includes many abbreviations; this is standard in medieval Latin manuscripts. A black and white image of this illuminated initial is used as a frontispiece in Jackson & Morgan 1990. |
