Dr. Wm. L. Rodman Dies. President of American Medical Association Was a Cancer Expert. Special to The New York Times. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; March 8, 1916. Dr. William L. Rodman, President of the American Medical Association and professor of surgery at the Medico-Chirurgical College, died today at his home, 2,106 Walnut Street. He had been ill with pleurisy a few days only. Dr. Rodman was born in Frankfort, Kentucky in 1838. He was graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute and Jefferson Medical College. He came to this city seventeen years ago to take the Chair of Surgery in the Medico-Chirurgical College and held it without interruption until his death. His installation as President of the American Medical Association occurred at its. sixty-sixth annual convention last June at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco. Dr. Rodman held a high place in the world's medical circles as an expert in the treatment of cancer, and that was only one of the distinctions that made him famous. He labored for years to bring about a better understanding between the medical profession and the public. He maintained an unremitting fight on evils in. the medical profession and did much to raise Its ethical standards. Dr. Rodman was the son of General John Rodman, who for many years was Attorney General of Kentucky. Dr. Rodman was President of the American Medical College Association in 1902. He was a member of the American Surgical Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Association, the Kentucky State Medical Society, the Philadelphia Academy of Surgery, the Philadelphia Pathological Society, and 'the International Surgical Society.
