Summary
[edit]DescriptionWilliam Henry Hunt, Adam's Pale Ale, 1836.jpg |
English: Watercolor, bodycolor, and gum arabic on paper
10 1/2 X 7 in., 26.65 X 17.75 cm. Signed, W. HUNT, l.l. and dated 1836, l.r. The title of this watercolor is a reference to a form of ale with a reduced alcohol content, and the joke by the artist is a depiction of water as the "pale ale." The image was engraved for use as the frontispiece and a separate plate in the 1844 volume of engravings after Hunt's work entitled Hunt's Comic Sketches. A replica of this work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin. |
