English: The William H. Hotchkiss House, 20 Lincoln Parkway, Buffalo, New York, October 2020. Like Hotchkiss' previous residence on Oakland Place, the house seen here was designed by his friend Williams Lansing - but unlike the previous residence which saw Lansing treading in familiar stylistic territory with a standard-issue Colonial design, the Lincoln Parkway Hotchkiss House exemplifies the Craftsman style then in vogue while simultaneously, with its half-timbered façade and wide bargeboards, pointing the way forward to the Tudor Gothic aesthetic that would come to prominence in the ensuing decades. Notable as well is the coarsely textured clinker-brick masonry on the chimney and front porch. Built in 1904, this was the third of three extant houses in Buffalo to have served as home of William H. Hotchkiss (1851-1918), an attorney with the firm of Hotchkiss & Bush and later New York State Superintendent of Insurance: his previous residence include 173 Summer Street (where he lived from 1893 through 1897) and the aforementioned home on Oakland Place (1898-1904). Interestingly, city directories dated 1910 and onward place Hotchkiss and his family back at his earlier Summer Street residence, where he would remain until his death.
