Promoted to Major General, October 1, 1918.Assignments: Commanded 184th Brigade, 92nd Division; Commanded 28th Division, October 26, 1918.Born: Florida, July 16, 1860.Distinguished Service Medal. For exceptionally meritorious and distin-guished services. As commander of the 184thInfantry Brigade he showed efficient leader-ship. Promoted to major generalship in theearly part of October, 1918, he took commandof the 28th Division, and by his marked abilityand great energy he contributed to the suc-cesses attained by the division during the timein which he was in command. He renderedservices of a high character to the AmericanExpeditionary Forces. G. O. 89 (July 15,1919). (241)

As commander of theTwenty-seventh Division in its successfuloperations with the British in France in theautumn of 1918 he displayed qualities of skilland aggressiveness which mark him as a leaderof ability. In the breach of the Hindenburgline between St. Quentin and Cambria thename of his division is linked with the Britishin adding new laurels to the allied forces inFrance. G. O. 12 (January 17, 1919).
