English: Ellis, William Webb, d 1785 :Oammo [1777]. Date: 1777. Ref: A-264-023-2. Full face head and shoulders portrait of Amo, the Ara nui of Papara, Tahiti, husband of Oberea. He is shown with a small beard and a scarf-like garment draped around his neck. Joppien / Smith number for these drawings is 3.96. On verso of each sheet is a portrait of a Tahitian man, one called Awallo, the other Oammo. The modern spelling of this chief is Amo; he was the husband of Queen Purea. |
