Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The William E. O'Brien House, 27 Treehaven Road at Huntley Road, Buffalo, New York, March 2022. Built in 1935, this two-story, stylistically ambiguous residence is situated in the Treehaven or Judges' Row section at the far northeastern corner of Buffalo. A wood-framed building clad in stone veneer, the hipped roof, quasi-symmetrical façade, and brick chimney stacks appended to both side elevations are vaguely suggestive of the French Provincial Revival, but ultimately, in the words of local architect Max Willig, "I'm not sure that it is any particular style". William Edward O'Brien (1889-1971) was a World War I Army sergeant-turned-auto salesman who, at the time the house was built, had just retired from the Ford dealership he owned to accept a position on the city Board of Assessors. A Democrat, he would occupy the post until his surprise resignation in 1954. O'Brien lived in the house until his death, and his widow remained until 1982.
