William Adriense Bennet, an Englishman and a cooper by trade, and the ancestor of the early Bennet family of Kings Co., was in this country prior to 1636, for in that year he and Jacques Bentyn purchased of the Indians 930 acres at Gowanus, of which, Dec. 26, 1639, he appears to have bought Bentyn's interest. He m. Mary Badye (sometimes written Mary Thomas), dau. of Altien Breckanne by a former husband. William died prior to 1644. Mary, the widow, was living as late as Jan., 1697. Made his mark, "W." Issue: Arie or Adriaen, b. 1639; m. Angenietje Van Dyck. Willem, m., Apl. 9, x66o, Geertruyt Van Mullen. Christian, bp. Jan. 6, 1641, in N. Y., d. an infant. Sara, bp. Nov. 10, 164x, in N. Y.
