JPEG file comment | MIERIS, Willem van
(b. 1662, Leiden, d. 1747, Leiden) The Greengrocer 1731 Oil on wood, 40 x 34 cm Wallace Collection, London Willem van Mieris was the younger sons of Frans van Mieris the Elder. Together with his brother Jan (1660-1690) he continued his father's tradition. His paintings are similar to his father's, but his over-scrupulous attention to detail makes them tiresome. Willem's son Frans van Mieris the Younger (1689-1763) painted in a watered-down version of his grandfather's style.
