Summary
[edit]DescriptionWilkins Pendulum.svg |
English: The "seconds pendulum" pendulum was the cornerstone of Wilins' proposal for a decmial system of units (1688). The pendulum had a "half-period" of one second. In his proposal, the unit of length which he called a "standard" was defined by his pendulum and was a little under a metre, the unit of capacity that he called the "pint" was equivalent to a cube with sides 0.1 standards, so was a little under a litre and his unit of mass which he called the "pound" was the mass of water that would fill a "pint" and was a little under a kilogram. |
