Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A fireline was created around research plots by raking leaves in strips about 8 feet wide. Three research plot areas have been defined in this ongoing project at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in northern Mississippi.

Wet leaves produce more smoke than dry leaves when they burn. This winter burn, after leaves had fallen from the trees, did create a low smoke layer in the forest.

Fire behavior such as this gives fire researchers the unusual opportunity to get a close view of fire behavior.
