Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On 18 March 2024, an enormous wildfire broke out in La Tigra National Park, near the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa. The fire prompted the Honduran Air Force (FAH) to respond with helicopters to extinguish the flames. The combined efforts of the Honduran Fire Department and FAH successfully controlled the blaze. While details are unknown, the fire is thought to have been the result of human activity. The burn scar of the fire is visible in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image acquired on the same day. The spatial and temporal resolution of the free and open data provided by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites enables the monitoring of wildfires and their impacts on the environment.
