Description En EEUU he visto manadas de ungulados silvestres de las que hace siglos que no se ven por Europa. Esta manada de Cervus canadensis; Elk en inglés o Wapití para nosotros, era en realidad muuuuucho más grande, dividida en subclanes de hembras llevadas por uno o dos machos. La foto está tomada en Rocky Mountain National Park, el parque de Colorado que recoge 10 de los catorce picos de este estado que superan los 4000 metros. Después de todo el día en el parque, evitando resbalar con la nieve y sin ver un solo bicho, en cuanto empezó a caer el sol, nos vimos rodeados de varias especies de ciervos que salían de todas partes, ajenas a nosotros. Un lugar intacto; aquí no ha habido nunca núcleos urbanos, ganadería, agricultura ni ningún aprovechamiento sedentario, más que la caza de subsistencia de los indios Pueblo, Ute y Arapahoe. Pero aquí la cadena trófica se mantiene, estos wapitíes no nos temían a nosotros, sus enemigos aún son los pumas, las rapaces y de vez en cuando, los osos negros. Hace falta que siga habiendo lugares así.
