Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Wilbraham Knight, Jr. House, 438 Starin Avenue at Parkside Avenue, Buffalo, New York, July 2022. Situated in the middle-class, suburb-like North Park section of the city, this two-story, wood-framed, brick-veneered house is a good example of the Mediterranean Revival style of architecture that was popular around the time of its construction (1927). Classic stylistic attributes in evidence here include a studied formality, warm earth-toned façade, decorative ironwork especially evident in the small balcony above the main entrance facing Parkside Avenue, and - above all - the low-pitched hipped roof clad in red clay tiles. More unusual is the second-floor solarium seen at left. Head of a prominent contracting company, Wilbraham Knight, Jr. (1895-1979) was the original owner, and most likely the builder, of this house. He lived there with his family until some time in the mid-1940s.
