Deutsch: Innenansicht der Wiener Karlskirche im 4. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Wieden.
In Einlösung eines von Karl VI. während der Pestepidemie am 22. Oktober 1713 bei St. Stephan abgelegten Gelübdes (dem Pestheilgen Karl Borromäus eine Kirche errichten zu lassen, würde die Seuche zu Ende gehen) erfolgte am 4. Februar 1716 die Grundsteinlegung der Kirche. 1729 war der Rohbau fertiggestellt. Der Endausbau dauerte dann nochmals fast 10 Jahre und am 24. August 1738 fand dann darin in feierlicher Form und in Anwesenheit des Kaisers die erste Messe statt. Der Bau mit einem längsovalen Hauptraum wurde von Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach begonnen (1716-1723) und nach seinem Tod von seinem Sohn Joseph Emanuel Johann Fischer von Erlach (Bauführer Erhard Martinelli) vollendetː [1]. Anmerkungː Am oberen Bildrand ist ein Teil einer Skulptur aus Neonröhren, die der britische Künstler Cerith Wyn Evans entworfen hat und einem in dekadenten Zeiten als Kunstwerk vermittelt wird.
