Whitwood signal box located by the Down Main line at Castleford controlling the junction for the Methley branch to Methley Junction. Saturday 18th April 1987 Whitwood signal box was a North Eastern Railway Type S1b design which opened in 1890, probably named Whitwood Junction. A replacement 50 lever McKenzie and Holland Number 16 frame was installed in 1906 and closure came on 13th September 1997 when signalling passed to the new Castleford signal box |
