Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Whitlingham Sewage Works Anglian Water has installed two methane gas-powered generators providing electricity to work the pumps and motors. The gas is produced from human waste and stored in tanks to run the generator engines. Whitlingham is the first sewage works in East Anglia to use this technique. The plant produces about 11,000 to 12,000 cubic metres (423,776 cubic ft) a day from the sludge which, when pre-treated, will double the amount of gas and hence the electricity it produces. The private road seen in the foreground forms part of Cycle Route 1 and the Wherryman's Way long distance footpath.
