| Description | My camera's autofocus beam is reflected in the White Lion's eyes. He closed his eyes and turned away due to this. Not wanting to stress or disturb him, I move away as well. White lions are not albinos. Their white colour is caused by a recessive gene known as the color inhibitor gene, distinct from the albinism gene. They vary from blonde through near-white. This coloration, however, does not appear to disadvantage their survival. White lions in South Africa are currently being bred almost exclusively for hunting, but some eminent conservationists are trying to change the South African hunting laws.(Al Ain, UAE, Dec. 2012) |
