English: The white-tailed robin, a member of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae, inhabits the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent and neighboring areas of Southeast Asia. Its distribution includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. This stately ground-dwelling songbird thrives in dense mid- to upper-elevation broadleaf and mixed forests, particularly favoring areas abundant with bamboo.

Distinguished by its striking appearance, the male white-tailed robin boasts a rich blue plumage with brighter patches on the crown and wings, while the female exhibits a brown overall coloring with a white throat and belly. Both genders feature large white patches on the sides of their tails, which gleam brightly amidst the forest's dim ambiance when fanned. Notably, the male's ground-dwelling habits and horizontal posture serve as key distinguishing features from the similar Large Niltava.
