White Mountains mousetails, Ivesia lycopodioides var. scandularis, Inyo National Forest, elevation 3665 m (12030 ft). Though revealed to be locally abundant in wet years, var. scandularis is geographically limited to the alpine zone of the White Mountains and adjacent Sierra Nevada. Substrate is mixed sediments, mainly sandstone of the Campito Formation (lower Cambrian). Also visible are little elephant heads (Pedicularis attollens), Lapland gentian (Comastoma tenellum), and spike woodrush (Luzula spicata). |
