DescriptionWhite Alder Memorial.jpg | BATON ROUGE, La. – Coast Guardsmen from Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge, La. prepare to unveil a new memorial dedicated to the crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter White Alder, Dec. 7, 2009, during a dedication ceremony at the USS Kidd veteran’s memorial and museum. Eighteen of the White Alder’s 20 crewmembers died Dec. 7, 1968, when the White Alder collided with the Steam Ship Helena while transiting the Mississippi River in heavy fog.
