| Description |
English: Whitby Harbour Bridge Whitby Harbour Bridge with the inner harbour beyond and the outer harbour in the foreground. The bridge is of the double leaf bascule type. Each leaf lifts up from the middle, pivoting on the pier to which it is attached. Access to the inner harbour for small cargoe ships or high-masted boats required the bridge to be lifted at considerable delay to vehicles crossing the river at this point. The new high level bridge further upstream has now removed through traffci from this bottleneck. |
