Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Where waggons rolled and horses sweated They did up to about 1860.

All that remains of a horse-drawn dramway (correct spelling) linking the mines of Coalpit Heath with a wharf on the River Avon east of Hanham Mills. It also served places between. Closed when the steam railway out of Bristol and Bath arrived. A gentleman I met there told me there is a small museum a few hundred yards north of this spot devoted to local history. Must get there.

"The local colliery owners were always unhappy about road transport and by the 1820s demand for coal in the glass, sugar and soap industries of Bristol made a better transport link essential."

The above was copied from: http://www.radisol.co.uk/districtweb/main-site/dramway-info.htm where there is much more.
