| Description |
English: I was taking a helicopter ride over the Big Island in Hawaii when I saw the point where the lava met the ocean. This is a perfect moment when the Hawaiian goddess of fire, Pele, meets the goddess of the sea, Namakaokahai, to create new land and expand the land mass of Hawaii. This meeting between two elements has been happening for thousands of years to create the island of Hawaii. To see an island being created in this photo is amazing. When I flew over this and saw how the steam billowed up into the air like a smokescreen, I had to take a picture which created this marvelous moment in time where colors join together to create this unique photo. |
