Description
English: During surgery on gun shot victims, members of the Forward Surgical Team assigned to Forward Operating Base Farah, Afghanistan, utilize universal donor blood from their blood bank, Dec. 2, 2009. The level-two clinic on FOB Farah is required to store a minimum 30 units of blood in their facility. If they run out of stored blood, the FST members can either have more packed red blood cells flown in on a medical evacuation helicopter or activate the "walking blood bank" to take blood from specifically matched direct donors.
