Description Capt. William Lafayette Kennedy (1845-1929) of La Grange, N.C. Written on back of photograph: Capt. Kennedy William Lafayette Kennedy. Printed on front of photograph: Wharton, 119 Fayetteville St., Raleigh, N.C. Note: In 1912, Captain Kennedy and wife Emily Hardee Kennedy gave their 1,250-acre farm and residence for an eastern branch of Baptist Children's Homes known then as the Baptist Orphanage. In the 1940s and 1950s, the Kennedy Home housed 160 children who went to school and worked on the grounds.
