Summary

[edit]
Description

Wetherby House, Queen Parade, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. It was built by Richard Ellis, (1820–1895), builder and mayor of Harrogate, as one of his residences. Showing the brown plaque on the gatepost at the front of the house.

There are two errors on this brown plaque. One is that Ellis was born in 1820 (November). The other is that he was not described as the "Bismarck of Harrogate" until his obituary was written, and that was in reference to the fact that his developments had joined two villages to make a town, so that his works could be compared (somewhat light-heartedly) to Bismarck's unification of Germany.
