c/n 504/39. Built by Westlands in 1940 with the RAF serial V9300. Taken on charge to 39 Maintenance Unit (MU) on 13th December 1940. Transferred to No.3 PATP (Packed Aircraft Transit Pool) 31st December 1941 and despatched to Canada on 5th January 1942. On arrival in Canada she was given the RCAF serial 1558 and was taken on charge on 27th January 1942. Remained Canadian service until 1st October 1946 when she was sold off. Recovered from a farm in 1973, she came back to the UK in 1982 for Graham Warner’s ‘British Aerial Museum’. In 1986 she was put on the British civil register as G-LIZY but a restoration to flight did not take place and after becoming part of the IWM collection in 1991 she was restored to static condition. Completed in 1993, she has been painted to represent the aircraft flown by Hugh Verity DSO, DFC, of 161sqn based at RAF Tempsford during 1943. Verity possibly flew more ‘secret’ missions to France during the war than any other pilot, and later wrote the book “We Landed by Moonlight” on the subject. Since 2006 ‘V9673’ has been on display suspended in the ‘AirSpace’ hangar at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
