Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Westgate Evangelical Chapel, Pembroke

Located on the corner of Common Road and Westgate Hill. Pembroke Castle is on the left. The following potted history is based on information on the chapel's website:

Situated near the west gate of the old town wall, a chapel has occupied this position since 1826. It is probable that the church (as a community of worshippers) was formed about 1810, or earlier, and met in a room behind a house in Main Street. Bethel (the name of the original wooden structure) was erected in 1826. The building seen here was erected in 1866-1867 and opened in June 1867. West Gate was originally a Calvinistic Methodist chapel, later used by the Presbyterian Church of Wales. It became Westgate Evangelical Chapel in June 2006.
