st off at 2:37in an alfalfa field. Both dogs got away fastand ranged well, Sir Roderick making somevery handsome casts. Sir Roderick was firstto find but the birds flushed wild. Rod. be-having well to the flush. Taking another cast.Rod pointed and Romp backed. Romp thensecured a point backed by Rod., but no birdwas raised. Rod then pointed, but no birdwas found. Casting again to the right, bothdogs working their ground carefully, each se-cured a point. As Rods bird was flushed hetook about a dozen steps and pointed ^Sgi-following this again by another point. Aftereach had secured another point, the brace wasordered up at 3:15. Rod. had much the betterstyle and certainly the best of the heat. BURBANK-JAPAN. J. W. Flynns black andwhite pointer dog Burbank (Dr. Daniels-Sena-tors Mistress Nell), handled by W. B. Burbank secured six points toJapans five. Burbank ranged well with agood deal of speed, but spoils his appearanceby running with an extremely low head. Inthis last particular Japan was almost as bad andis not so fast. They were taken up at 4:40and the party returned to town.TUESDAY. Monday night and Tuesday mornings trainsbrought many new enthusiasts to follow thedogs. The weather being exceedingly fine, anearly start was had in the hope of finishing thederby on tliat day.
