English: West cardinal at the Gigalum Rocks Charted as Gigalum Rocks, OS has them as Sgeir Gigalum. Either way, a hazard to shipping! The skerry, well inhabited by sea birds, was just above water when this was taken.
This is in the Sound of Gigha, near to the amphidrome in the Sound of Jura, where there is no tidal range up and down - just strong currents through. It makes anchoring simple, with a tidal height range of less than a metre compared with the more usual (in Scottish waters) of 3 to 4 metres. |
