Summary
[edit]DescriptionWerner Photography Bldg - Aug 2011.jpg |
English: The Werner Photography Building, 101-103 Genesee Street, Buffalo, New York, August 2011. A "rare intact remaining example of late-nineteenth century commercial architecture specifically designed for the thriving photographic industry" (borrowing the words of the Clinton Brown Company's historic survey of the building), the building was erected in 1895 in a hybrid Italianate/Neoclassical style by noted Buffalo architect Richard Waite, owned by Frederika and Gabriel Giesser whose cutlery business was previously located on the same lot and who continued to live in the upper-floor apartments after the construction of this building, and leased by Albert Werner as a photography studio. The building continued to house photographic studios through the 1940s, then was the home of the Charlie Baker clothing store through the 1980s. It's now vacant, albeit thoroughly renovated. |
