Das Medaillenporträt des berühmten Hallenser Theologen ist nach dem Bildnis des Leipziger Kupferstechers Martin Bernigeroth geschaffen worden. Der Pietist Francke gründete 1695 von einer Spende von sieben Gulden eine Armenschule, kurz darauf noch ein Waisenhaus und verschiedene andere Institutionen, die heute noch als Franckesche Stiftungen bekannt sind.
