Description

General Wendjebauendjed's funerary cups from the tomb of king Psusennes I at Tanis, Egypt. Wendjebauendjed was a general who served under this pharaoh during the 21st dynasty period of Egypt. He had the rare privilege of being interred within Psusennes I's NRT III tomb at Tanis with various jewellery, burial equipment and a fine gold funerary mask. These rare and precious objects are today located in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Museum.

  • The cup in on the left is made of gold, silver and glass paste while the cup on the right is made exclusively of silver.
Wendjebauendjed was buried in a chamber of Psusennes I's tomb beneath the paving of the temple of Amun at Tanis, where they lay forgotten until their rediscovery by Pierre Montet in 1939. Montet's discovery was the greatest find in Egypt since that of Tutankhamun in 1922, but its excavation on the eve of World War Two in 1939-40 meant that the find never received the attention it deserved.
