Summary
[edit]DescriptionWeir - geograph.org.uk - 318563.jpg |
English: Weir The weir and sluice system which allowed water from the R.Ayr to flow into the voes along the mill lade on the left of the photograph. A dam was also built across the headwaters of the R. Ayr beyond Muirkirk from which water was released at night to ensure that there was an adequate supply of water in the voes to allow work in the mills during the day. Ideas put into practice by David Dale in the mills at New Lanark on the R. Clyde were also used in the mill complex in Catrine. |
