English: Weir, Ripley Castle. Another view from Tower Bridge of 410645, which dates from 1843-4. "Horse-shoe shaped and forms a cascade of 6 tiers; the stone basin is approximately 3 metres deep and stone lined ... The walls of the basin are built up to provide support for the footbridge. This has a single shallow span, the iron walkway supported by a single rib. In Gothick style, with 2 pairs of solid standards decorated with trefoiled panels and having rounded pyramidal caps. The railings have 2 tiers of trefoil arches with a band of cinquefoil roundels at the base and a moulded handrail which ramps down to ground level at each end. The standards have the cast inscription: "JOSEPH BUTLER / & CO / OLD FOUNDRY / STAININGLEY" " https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1150405 The lake was created at the same time. |
