At the time of construction, the largest hall in Thueringen. Now rebuilt as the Congress Centrum which was opened in 1999 after demolition of this building above.(see comments below by @pwhi). <a href="File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-26500-0002,_Weimar,_7._CDU-Parteitag,_Weimarhalle.jpg" rel="nofollow">This photo from the Bundesarchiv</a> shows the 7th Congress of the CDU (DDR) taking place here in September 1954. The plan of the Mayor in the mid 1920s was to create a conference centre in Weimar. It had been hoped to open the Hall to celebrate the centenary of the death of Goethe in 1932. The cost of building was 1.15 million Reichsmarks. After beginning of the reconstruction 1996-1997, serious defects were found during a complete rebuilding by the architects Beatrix Wuttke and Thomas Ringhoff of Berlin . A completely <a href="http://www.baunetz.de/meldungen/Meldungen-Neubau_der_Weimarhalle_in_Weimar_eroeffnet_5391.html" rel="nofollow">new hall was then built</a> according to designs of gmp - <a href="http://www.dorma.com/en/en/references/up-to-date/top-10-references/index-c-202-54.html" rel="nofollow">Gerkan, Marg und Partner of Hamburg</a> . |
