Weg der Revolutionäre
In der Revolution 1848/49 brachen demokratische Revolutionäre von verschiedenen Orten Südbadens auf, um in Karlsruhe die großherzogliche Regierung zu stürzen. Alle fünf Züge der Aufständischen wurden vom Militär zerschlagen.
Hier am Jägerbrunnen trafen am Ostersonntag, 23. April 1848, Freischärler der Kolonne Sigel unter der Führung von Gustav Struve (1805-1870, Abb. oben) auf Regierungstruppen. Nach kurzem Gefecht - es fielen drei Soldaten und 20 Freischärler - wurden die Revolutionäre in die Flucht geschlagen. Die Niederlage führte zur Auflösung des Sigel-Zuges. Von den 4.000 Männern blieben noch etwa 400, mit denen Franz Sigel (1824-1902, unten) am Ostermontag zu den Aufständischen in Freiburg stoßen wollte. Der Versuch mißlang, der Zug löste sich auf.
