Title |
Weft beater |

Description |
English: Polished bone point, probably of medieval or post-medieval date. The implement is sub-rectangular in profile, with curved sides and flat faces. The tool tapers gently along its length, with a more pronounced taper and rounded profile near the tip. The end of the implement has been shaped to a diagonal. The point of the pin is missing, with a recent break. One of the faces displays a more porous bone structure, representing the inner face of the bone. The closest parallels to the implement are medieval bone pin-beaters used in textile manufacture similar to that found at Bedern, York (Ottaway and Rogers no. 2738). |
