Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Wavertree Clock Tower. A wellknown landmark in Wavertree, one of the ancient villages of Merseyside, at the junction of High street and Church Road. Wavretreu was mentioned in the Domesday book but evidence of a pre-Celtic settlement have been found nearby on Olive Mount. The large building behind the clock was the former Abbey cinema, now a bingo hall and supermarket, which first opened its doors in March 1939 with 'Joy of Living', and closed down in August 1979 with 'The Towering Inferno'
