Description

Watts Bros Letter Head 1965 Watts Bros was a familiar logo emblazoned on the side of many a vehicle once delivering goods around Beverley and Yorkshire. The firm of Watts Brothers began in the 1880s when John Watts was listed as a hay dealer in Lairgate. By 1892 he advertised a daily run to Hull and back as a carrier. The wagon would leave Lairgate, Beverley on a daily basis and would return from the Rampant Horse, Mytongate, Hull at 3pm. From around 1920, the firm became Watts Bros operating from 49 Lairgate, Beverley. The business extended in the 1940s to house removals, car hire and road haulage throughout the country. The maintenance depot was at Manor Park, Manor Road, Beverley. Years later, the depot became a carpet warehouse and was eventually demolished in 2005/6, making way for housing.
