Summary
[edit]DescriptionWattons Ford on the River Avon - geograph.org.uk - 510777.jpg |
English: Wattons Ford on the River Avon This view is from the Dorset side of Wattons Ford, probably the lowest crossing point on the River Avon, which dates back to at least Roman times. A public right of way exists across the river, from this bank veering across to the right (downstream), to the Hampshire side. The river in this photo is very high, swollen with the rains from the wettest July on record. When the river is lower crossing by vehicle is possible, as demonstrated by Off-Road enthusiasts and a Dorset Rights of Way group in 2004. A 1992 Hampshire Rights of Way Committee concluded that at this ford "Traffic management does not appear necessary." |
