| Description |
Dutch/ English Op het Eiland van Dordrecht ligt een zeer markante bunkerstructuur, bestaande uit kazematten, onderdeel van het zuidfront van de ‘Vesting Holland’. De kazematten werden langs de buitenste, zuidelijke dijken van het Eiland van Dordrecht op regelmatige afstand van elkaar gebouwd. Ze bestaan uit één laag met een soort schilddak, zijn geheel in schoon gewapend beton uitgevoerd en hebben één toegangsopening. De – in totaal bijna 60 – kazematten zijn tussen februari en mei 1940 gemaakt als groepsschuilplaats, in opdracht van de Nederlandse Staat. Toen de oorlog uitbrak in Nederland, waren ze eigenlijk nog niet helemaal klaar. Ook aan de Kop van ’t Land zijn enkele kazematten te vinden. On the island of Dordrecht there is a very striking bunker structure, consisting of casemates, part of the southern front of the 'Vesting Holland'. The casemates were built at regular intervals along the outer, southern dikes of the Island of Dordrecht. They consist of one layer with a kind of shield roof, are completely constructed in clean reinforced concrete and have one access opening. The - almost 60 - casemates were made between February and May 1940 as a group shelter, commissioned by the Dutch State. When the world war II broke out in the Netherlands, they were not really ready yet. Some casemates can also be found at "Kop van 't Land" at the island. (Stichting landschap & cultuurhistorie) |
