English: Notes in inventory: New Whatcom, Wash. Waterfall in creek about 4 or 5 miles from Lake Whatcom . This may be Tinling Falls . An early town on Bellingham Bay formed by the merger of Whatcom and Sehome in 1891, assisted by the coming of a large number of settlers from Kansas was named New Whatcom. This town later combined with Fairhaven to form the city of Bellingham. Whatcom is an Indian word meaning "noisy rumbling water" referring to Whatcom Falls. PH Coll 291.164
