Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Cut Mill from the Quay, Bosham, West Sussex.

Watercolour, signed lower-right with initials and dated 1903.

Richard Martin Gallery:

Dr Arthur Evershed, painter, etcher, physician was born into a Sussex family at Billingshurst in 1836 and moved to Fishbourne from Hampstead in 1894. He was educated in London at Alfred Clint's studio and Leigh's School of Art (1852-59). Life as an artist was too uncertain so he followed his father and brother in studying medicine. He qualified in 1863 and married Mary Field (daughter of the Assay Master at the Royal Mint) in the Chapel Royal of the Tower of London in 1864.
