| Description | There are crocodiles in the Kinabatangan, and during our previous night's boat safari, we had caught the briefest of glimples of the glint from the eyes of several crocs before they dived under. We even saw a tiny juvenile on a rock, who jumped into the water in a matter of seconds when we tried to stop. So when we saw this fellow lazing on the river bank, we were pretty excited, thinking that it was a crocodile. False alarm! He turned out to be a water monitor, also called 'bayawak' in the local lingo and in the Philippines. He twitched a bit when we edged closer.
