Tutela EPAL, S.A. ENGLISH The steam Pumping Station of Barbadinhos, inaugurated in 1880, is held in a typically 19th century industrial building. The equipment was initially composed of three machines built at the E. W. Windsor factory in Rouen. They were two cylinders, with a steam shirt Woolf System, of variable expansion and condensation. Machines 1 and 2 were destined to elevate water to the Middle Area at 63 meters height; Machine 3 elevated water at 42 meters. In 1889, a fourth Machine of the same type was acquired serving both Middle and Low Areas. The main equipment, composed of four steam machines built by E.W.Windsor, was operating nonstop until 1928. The machines of the Woolf system were all of same type. Destined to the elevation pf water from Alviela to thr reservoirs of Veronica and Monte, the Pumping Steam Station, due to the machinery and also due to its operating possibilities, constituted a major interest in the field of industrial archeology and is the pride of Water Museum today. |
