Description
Français : Haut fourneau de type water-jacket utilisé pour la fusion du minerai de plomb.
English: Water-jacket blast furnace used for lead smelting.

Text appearing in the book ROUND WATER JACKET FURNACES. For Copper Ores. Page 112, plate No. 84, represents our standard form of a round water jacket copper furnace which we are making in sizes from 18" to 48" diameter. They are especially adapted for smaller plants as described above. The principle of the round furnace is the same as the rectangular. The water jacket is rolled of flanged steel with sheets carefully riveted, caulked and fitted with bronze tuyeres. A removable wind-box with blast pipe connections on one side is bolted to the jacket in line with tuyeres, thus distributing the blast equally to each tuyere and securing a perfect delivery of blast to every part of the charge. Peep-holes with removable caps and mica covering are provided in front of each tuyere for the convenience of furnacemen. The crucible is built upon a heavy cast iron plate supported by four substantial cast iron columns and provided with a hinged bottom in such a manner that the bottom can be dropped instantly for access to the interior if anything should happen to the charge or when repairs are necessary. The furnace is furnished complete with stack and water pipes ready for erection. *A 36-inch furnace requires about one thousand fire-brick for the stack and crucible and will run continuously for several months. For low grade ore, an outside well is sometimes furnished.

PLATE No. 84. WATER JACKET FURNACE FOR COPPER ORES

Page 113, plate No 85, illustrates our Round Water Jacket Furnace for silver and galena ores.' The construction is shown plainly and resembles the copper furnace (plate No. 84) to a great extent. A small heating kettle is furnished under the lead spouts intended for making cleaner bullion. These furnaces are made of 10, 20 and 30 tons capacity. The larger sizes being more economical both as regards fuel and attendance.
